The Real Public Enemy

Today, I received two notes from Martin Sheil, retired IRS criminal investigator.

He told me that on this day in 1919 Benito Mussolini founded the Fasci di Combattimento, which he then turned into the Fascist Party in 1921.

“Disgruntled veterans fed a diet of aggressive Nationalism proved the perfect breeding grounds for Fascism,” he wrote. “History repeating itself? Aggressive nationalism morphing into Fascism...”

He also told me that today is the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s "Give me liberty or give me death" speech.

As I write the intro to this post, I know I am watched closely by those whose job it is to take my words and twist them and corrupt them until they are devoid of meaning, or until they serve only to undermine truth. Fascism scholar Jason Stanley calls this ‘undermining propaganda’

From the moment I pressed send on my first anti-Trump blog on September 17, 2016, my words were watched by professionals whose entire careers have been devoted to stripping meaning for parts. They target journalists, activists, and anyone speaking truth to power.

I knew it was occurring because I would find phrases that I had crafted co-opted by the enemy. Almost as soon as I would debut a phrase, it would be picked off, only to come out of the mouth of a propagandist with the meaning completely warped and no longer serving any purpose useful to reality. The internet made it easy.

I didn’t know there was a job title for the people who do this orchestrated assassination of truth until RadPod interviewed war correspondent and author Zarina Zabrisky, who explained to us that in Russia the people who do this for a living are called political technologists.

Here Zabrisky explains who does this work and why they do it, based on her history of having been forced to take a course on combat propaganda:

“Who are the people who do this work? In Russia, there is a professional which is widely known — everybody knows it just as a plumber, a teacher, or conductor — it’s called a political technologist. This profession does not exist in the United States or the European Union. A political technologist develops sophisticated techniques based on psychology, history, and cultural and linguistic studies — that’s what they were trying to teach us in this classified political course — they sought journalists and philosophers to do this work called combat propaganda or black propaganda. Covert propagandists work with the myths embedded in people’s minds… the art of sowing discord in the ranks of the enemy by means of disinformation and manipulation of consciousness.”

The main goal, she explained, is demoralization of the army and population of the enemy in order to break down societal cohesion. She said it’s all engineered to undermine and lead to our weakening.

As she spoke of Russians launching myths in narrative warfare, I heard it as Russians launching missiles aimed right for our brains.

They are our real enemy. Their job is to pour gasoline on everything, plant absurdities, destroy the ability to have a shared narrative of truth, all to make the people in the target nation hate one another.

Vladislav Surkov, the Kremlin’s Éminence grise, a political technologist conjuring ‘theater craft,’ would back opposition movements destined to fail, so people would lose all faith in democracy.

We know contractors of the Internet Research Agency operating out of St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2016 created Facebook pages for protests in America for both sides of the protest. We know the Women’s March was infiltrated and ultimately destroyed by operatives from St. Petersburg.

So when we read about protest movements in 2025, we have to closely scan for the work of political technologists, and look to find the controlled opposition embedded in the protest to destroy it from within.

We see the enemy as Putin, Musk, and Trump, and those who join them in the destruction of democratic nations, and that is true.

But there is another very real public enemy, one that is turning our world dark and Orwellian, and that public enemy is the political technologist — manipulator of consciousness, destroyer of souls.

They are largely invisible but once you see the patterns, you will see their work everywhere and get much savvier at spotting the real from the fakes.

Remember, they play all sides.

Ukrainians know these bullshit artists well. They spotted the plants in 2014 sent to disrupt the Revolution of Dignity.

The reds really are under the bed.
