Our two next Bette’s Happy Hour events are:
Tuesday, October 21, 12:30 pm Pacific with Matthew Pearce, a founding member of NAFO, a pro-Ukrainian decentralized fund-raising group of volunteers who accidentally reinvented information warfare. We will be talking about his brilliant work at his Mattppea’s Substack, powered by ‘righteous anger, ADHD, and Coffee.’ Pearce, a UK-based economist and technologist will walk us through his vital reporting on the cost of disinformation, the pipeline from Moscow to the West Wing, and his latest series on how the world set itself on fire. Plus, reality in Great Britain vs the lies being sold by the far-right. He will also offer some tactical advice on how to fight information warfare. As he noted in the following report: “The algorithm doesn’t care about your feelings or motives. It just chalks up another view for Trump. Outrage makes money.”
In tomorrow’s reminder invite, I will share with you some of his poetic writing.
Tuesday, October 28, noon Pacific, please join me and Marci Shore for a Hair-Raising Halloween Happy Hour and Costume Party. Shore, an intellectual historian who wrote The Ukrainian Night: An Intimate History of Revolution, and whose incredible insight often appears in my work, will be telling us spook-tacular tales on how to topple dictators. Costumes optional, but I encourage you to please join in the fun for a memorable mash up of how to defeat monsters.
