We have to live our best lives during trouble times — ‘the days run away like wild horses over the hills’ (Me and Bukowski).
I said to an editor recently that if I were a man, I’d be revered like Dominick Dunne. But I’m a woman, so I have to get up and prove myself every day.
And that’s fine. Keeps me sharp.
We have so many new members and along with my weekly Best of Bette ‘Roundups’, I wanted to share some of my key reporting so our new friends can get a sense of the scope of what we’re battling. As I said in Sunday’s Lucid meeting, when I quoted David Frum from 2017:
“If this were happening in Honduras, we’d know what to call it. It’s happening here instead, and so we are baffled.”
We should no longer be baffled. US traitors in fealty to Putin and other foreign enemy states are trying to overthrow our democracy.
And based on our Justice Department’s latest indictments, the US traitors are finding out.
Today, we learned that Fani Willis’ RICO indictments in Georgia encompass more than a dozen people — and just like any garden variety coup, they likely incorporate politicians, lawyers, business leaders and member/s of the US military.

Yes, Virginia, Russia has been infesting our democracy — buying off cheap people to cause chaos for years, and a Kremlin cutout named Ionov — the Charlie Kirk of Moscow — was indicted for paying US groups on the left and right to make our democracy look like a shitshow. He did this for a decade. Did you know CalExit was a Russian up? And that Arron Banks and Nigel Farage join Russia’s favorite Congressman Dana Rohrabacher in raising money for an op to remove California from the Union? If you wonder why Trump is suing my writing partner, and Mike Flynn and Kash Patel are suing my podcast partner it is because truth is lethal to those waging information warfare.

I jammed as many memories as I could into this memoir for Los Angeles Magazine. My editor told me I was like the new Eve Babitz, which I savored.
