12 films to help fight the fascist creep

We have been living in a Cold War - undeclared but very real. Russia is at war with the West - and aside from the war in Ukraine - the West is in denial. We keep being surprised by the myriad chaos and destabilization events, which is why I wrote this piece for Byline Supplement, The Rolling Insurrection: How Putin is Waging a Covert War Against the West. It is imperative we stop looking at destabilization events in a silo.

As Keir Giles noted in my report with Matt Bernardini: “Russia has already been convinced for a long time that it is in a state of conflict with the West..So all of the different levers of power that it can use to attack us, it has been using - economic or cyber or disinformation warfare, or public health campaigns of subversion… it's all been ongoing.”

My understanding of the scope of the war comes from watching documentaries, reading indictments, reading books, reading history, years of interviewing global experts, and piecing together investigative reports. I do not get my news from corporate cable TV. I read the source material. Staying above the headlines and seeing under them is imperative for me to do this work.

Just as I listed 12 books that are helpful to fight the fascist creep, here are 12 films that I found particularly helpful in giving context to the fight. I encourage you to carve out time to watch each film, documentary, and series, because it is my hope they will enrich the depth of your understanding and give you the tools you need to help others see that this “Russia, Russia, Russia” thing was not a hoax. Quite the contrary. We are under attack; the attack is ongoing. Each of these recommendations are very personal to me, because they function as life rafts that helped keep me tethered to reality during key moments in time where I was being emotionally abused for my unwavering defense of truth.

Putin and his Fifth Column wage full-time war to create unreality - which is how fascism works. With Trump being allowed back on that psyop cannon - Facebook - we need all the reality we can get.

We just learned this week that a former FBI special agent, Charles McGonigal, was accused of working for Oleg Deripaska while in charge of counterintelligence at the FBI’s New York office. This unfolding scandal is so damaging it calls to question the very legitimacy of Trump’s presidency, our national security, and the integrity of our democracy.
