WAITING TO EXHALE
On October 14, 2016, I wrote this post as a letter to my country to be read on November 9 — one day after the election — as I looked so forward to America voting in its first woman President

I am revisiting my archives. They exist like time capsules of pain, defiance, hope. I am leaving them raw as I wrote them, a mother struggling to sway the wind with her words, trying to fight fascism with her pen.

Exhale, America.
You just elected your first President of the Fairer Sex.
Women, and the men who love women, made it happen. They elected a President, who even her own competitor refers to as a fighter, one who never gives up.
On the day she is inaugurated, even her most vitriolic opponents might shed a tear, as one of history’s most enduring scrappers enters the arena. Maybe they’ll think of a particularly tenacious loved one.
The critics won’t matter much anymore, because she’ll be the one in the ring. Women like me will be writing the narrative:
