UNPRECEDENTED — Bette’s Archives Are Open
It’s 2024, and I am removing the paywall from hundreds of investigations
I have been trained by Jackie Singh to not allow online swarm attacks to derail my work, but even as I hold up emotionally, blocking hundreds of accounts can be a time suck. I left comments open on a request to my followers on Twitter/X to report an account that was impersonating Jim Stewartson in order to defame him, discredit his work, and confuse his followers into giving money to the impersonator. Multiple crimes occurred and the account was swiftly taken down. Despite this victory — on the heels of a big legal victory for Jim in his defense against lawfare brought by disgraced Mike Flynn — I still lost sunlight blocking those attacking me for standing up for Jim.
I have work to do, and that is why my comments are closed. I miss the interaction with real people and have devised workarounds but there’s not enough sunlight to spend time combatting the trauma merchants.
Truth Is Always Worth Knowing
In honor of 2024 — a year that will either signal the beginning of profound opportunities to institute structural reforms in the protection of democracy and in so doing, defeat Putinism, or a year that will bring more future pain — I am removing the paywall from hundreds of my investigative reports.
This is my work. This is what I do to make a living, and I am so thankful to the many hundreds of you who support me.
But in this fight for the soul of our country and the soul of democratic nations globally, it is important to have access to truth in reporting.
The lie factories are well-funded, the propagandists come cheap.
Truth relies on the goodness of people.
I will be adding a more prominent link to my tip jar to the bottom of any unpaywalled reports in the hopes I will continue to be carried by this community.

Just remember, this battle is existential for the villains as well as those on the frontlines in defense of democracy. These strongmen are often weak. Putin is desperate for a win because if the US holds in 2024 and we help Ukraine defeat his evil, he’ll get his much feared dictator ending. I shouldn’t think it will pretty.
