“There is truth and there are lies. Lies told for power and for profit. And each of us has a duty and responsibility, as citizens, as Americans, and especially as leaders – leaders who have pledged to honor our Constitution and protect our nation — to defend the truth and to defeat the lies.”
JOSEPH R. BIDEN, JR.
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
The past two weeks have seen both action and urgency. The US State Department, Justice Department, FBI, and US Treasury have made sweeping moves to thwart and expose Russia’s covert influence activities targeting the US and our Western allies. The State Department has explained that Russian covert influence activities are not journalism, which cuts through the noisy mob crying ‘free speech’ each time it’s pointed out that we are a target nation of information warfare. When a hostile foreign power spends billions of dollars to twist a democratic nation’s collective mind against its own well-being, that clearly is modern warfare.
In a flurry of indictments, affidavits, and sanctions — all in granular detail — Russian military intelligence-linked media operations are being exposed, as are US and Canadian citizens who’ve taken millions of dollars from Russia to pollute our understanding of reality with pro-Kremlin narratives.
As we learned in the 277-page doppelganger affidavit, Russian agents are closely monitoring the social media activities of 2,800 pro-Kremlin influencers — journalists, academics, comedians, veterans, bloggers, influencers — and 21% of the names on the list are US-based. We also learned that Russian media agents directing campaigns against the West are monitoring 1,900 ‘anti-influencers’ — those who are deemed to be unfriendly to Russian interests.
Zersetzung
Keep in mind, when the Berlin Wall came down, and it was revealed that 10,000 journalists, activists, and political dissidents had been targeted with psychological abuse in what was known as Zersetzung campaigns — half of them permanently damaged — it was also revealed the Stasi paid about 170,000 people to carry out the abuse, some as young as 14. Most notably, an estimated 500,000 were informal collaborators. I bring this up, because the next few months will be explosive as more operations and operatives are revealed, and even today, I am watching the last gasping of Big Ugly on Twitter. As I said, it’s going to get really weird, and the best thing we all can do is stay loyal to our allies.
My belief that it was quite dumb and dangerous to give Trump — a professional propagandist — a stage in primetime proved to be accurate as last week the election narrative was overtaken by moral panic spread on the debate stage and infecting every corner of the media.
Happy Hour with Alex Alvarova — Today in One Hour
To help us sort fact from fiction, I try to bring the most important experts into our Speakeasy and Happy Hour events, so we can all learn together, and I have invited disinformation analyst and author Alex Alvarova to give us a briefing on how to spot and define controlled opposition, black propaganda, and the ‘mirage of dissent.’
As we know, disinformation is a cheap way to destabilize societies and set the stage for potential military action. Despite all that we are doing to expose those who are engaging in these malign operations, Russia and Western traitors/useful idiots continue to work to destabilize the West.
I wish we had more time in the US to sort all this out, but we do not, so I am working around the clock to bring you the most critical information.
And just fyi, I look forward to sharing my report on Bella Fromm with you — a Berlin-based columnist in the 1930s, who saw the rise of Hitler’s power, and witnessed people fall under his spell.
The first time she saw Goebbles speak, she called him “a raging dwarf.” And here is what she said in 1943, after escaping to New York.
“There are men everywhere who would sell out humanity for their own personal profit. There are stupid and emotional masses everywhere who can be found to follow them, given a few slogans and some nice uniforms.”—Bella Fromm, 1943
This week, we are learning who some of them are.
I am looking so forward to spending an hour with Alex tomorrow. I do hope you attend. Alex has been our guest many times, and I have learned so much from her and continue to be inspired by her wisdom.

“An orchestrated mind war isn’t free speech.”-hsc
“The conscription of today is information literacy. The information space is toxic, and we should behave the same way as if the water we drink and the air we breathe would be poisoned too. We, as a human hive, need a quality information mix in order to survive on this planet, in this life, in this present. Imagine what happens to bees when their information exchange gets broken. They lose their orientation, the ability to warn each other, the skill to react accordingly, to heal or find food. The same is happening to us. Without a healthy natural information exchange algorithm, we are doomed.”
—Alexandra Alvarova
