Journalist Bella Fromm’s Berlin diary from 1930s Germany is a cry from the past to do something NOW to stop fascism — republishing with the hope that each of you read and share
Has it not “just happened here” when the aspiring dictator can leave today’s meeting with “President” Biden … without being arrested? For the sake of vainly adhering to a ritualistic notion of a “peaceful transition of power” … have we not just lost our democracy and allowed the fascists to cruelly transform us into a petro-state, with the country’s resources & labor available for the exploitation of the controlling oligarchs??
Heidi, I not only read your first post, I took this book out from the library afterward and read it cover to cover. I'm also something of a historian of this period (I'm an archivist working on a collection of Nuremberg trial documents). However I am still at a loss to see what an individual can do to stop this, at least people like me who are not willing to be lined up against a wall and executed. I can only imagine leaving the country. Clearly I'm missing something. What? This is not a situation where marching, "writing to your congresspeople" or "signing petitions" is going to matter. (I am only aware of ONE effective protest in Germany, the day the Aryan wives of Jewish male prisoners showed up outside of the prison to demand their release - the 1943 weeklong Rosenstrasse Protest.) To anyone reading this, if you have any ideas that you think might be useful, please add them to the comments so we can discuss them.
Thank you again Heidi, for trying to make it make sense. Which it will not ever. People have become too comfortable and ignorant. I do not see anything changing for the Democratic party as they now seem fine with a "peaceful transition" to fascism. Greed and grift may win but in the end it will destroy us all.

If only we would learn from history.
