I have learned to sit with my grief, allow it to wash over me, and then get back into action.
After learning war correspondents Zarina Zabrisky and Paul Conroy’s apartment building had been bombed, I reached out to Zarina to see if there was anything I could do to help. She recommended a small fundraiser for a selfless volunteer in Ukraine whose phone and computer had burned in a Russian shelling attack.
You came through. 🥹
Even with Substack being down in the last hour, from the moment I pressed send this morning, donations began to come in and the volunteer has enough to buy a new phone.
For that, I thank you. Zarina and Paul also send their thanks.
After I put out the request, I curled up for a while and let fly overdue tears.
I love Zarina and Paul. I am grateful to know them. I want them to live.
I hate this fucking war.
Today, I am both sad and grateful, and that’s okay.
I am glad you are here.
