I dare say it’s impossible to have been doing this work for seven years without acquiring a slight mood disorder, and those who joined me for our Tuesday Happy Hour wellness checkin shared same. That morning started off with the brilliant Moore v Harper news and then things went downhill from there, as they often do in this 24/7 News Cycle of Shite.

Trump is a media creature and I do not want to see staged photo ops of him shaking hands with radicalized members of law enforcement. Trump is failing on every metric, but the media simply can’t quit him. As I tweeted, “Take away the cameras and Trump ceases to exist.” The tube-fed propaganda is our war, and fight we will.

But after an hour with the Bette community, I felt better, which is entirely the point. We talked about birding, puzzling, Tai Chi — one of our members is a renowned instructor — and yes, world news. The only thing better than meeting in the squares is meeting in real life, as one of our members noted. Having a connection to all you good people is meaningful and life-affirming.

Speaking of badass, lol, retired IRS criminal investigator Martin Sheil is joining the Bette community at our Sunday ‘Speakeasy’ zoom salon, July 2, 4 pm. Please read his guest op-ed — it’s staggering to think that justices groomed by billionaires get to determine the fate of rich people’s taxes.

Those who are new to the Bette community can scan the archives for our Follow the Money series with Marty for a lot of great intel on how the dark money offshoring world has created a malignancy for the US, and what can be done about it.

Also, the Kremlin muppet installed in 2016 was indicted under the Espionage Act, and we are going to be talking about that, too.

In addition, Marty has been keeping a close eye on Georgia, which he predicted some months back would be Trump’s most likely road to unfreedom.

As we learned from David Pepper, Trump being convicted won’t save democracy, but I’ll sure feel a helluva lot better.
