Please have a listen to RadPod’s amazing interview with Paul Conroy, and Founding members, please remember to register for tomorrow’s Founder’s Day event:
In doing this work, I often find people who are the truest heroes of our times. Conroy is now covering his 19th war, despite life-threatening injuries in Syria, and his current assignment — documenting the obliteration of Kherson with author and war correspondent Zarina Zabrisky, who our Founding Members had a chance to meet last month.
Because of the dangers they are facing, I moved up the date to Sunday for this month’s Founder’s Day.
Thank you everyone who is helping to finance their new documentary film, and those of you who reached out on how you can help can start by contacting Zabrisky directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here are the specific details about our tomorrow’s Founder’s Day event:
Bette’s Founder’s Day, November 5, 1:30 pm — featuring Paul Conroy, a British independent war correspondent, filmmaker, and author currently working in Ukraine. His work is featured in the film, Under Deadly Skies/Ukraine’s Eastern Front, a Byline Films production, which documents multiple Russian war crimes. It is an important film — I encourage all to watch it and do whatever you can to help the people in Ukraine and encourage US support.
Conroy is a former soldier with the Royal Artillery, a veteran of 19 wars, and he wrote a book about his experience in Syria, where he was injured covering events from the Syrian city of Homs after the building he was staying in with other journalists was targeted. Among the reporters killed was foreign correspondent Marie Colvin and French photojournalist Remi Ochlik. In our interview with Conroy from today, he shares important stories about Syria and Colvin, a true light was lost.
Below are two beautiful photo essays featuring Conroy’s work:
Conroy just launched a substack and you can follow him here:
Please consider upgrading your membership to Founding Member — Substack defaults the amount to $210, but it is anything above the full $60 annual rate, so for many of you, upgrading to Founding Member will cost a small amount on top of your already prepaid annual membership. Although those who opt to donate the full Founding membership amount truly help keep the lights on as I do work that I feel is very necessary.
Thank you so much!
Onward and upward.
