As I told Bette members at our recent Happy Hour, on the invitation of Anne Nelson, I drove up to Sonoma, California, to meet with members of Wake UP Sonoma, and to see a screening they were hosting of the new Rob & Michelle Reiner film, God & Country.

I have watched many Westerns in my day — many many many many Westerns — like, all of them lol — and what is occurring in Sonoma is not unlike the plot of a Sergio Leone film. Moneyed gangsters move into town to take over. As I noted in my interview with Thom Hartmann, real estate investors tied to a core member of the Council for National Policy are buying up much of the community and also are affiliated with an area megachurch. Suddenly, a very progressive, inclusive community is being pushed to the right with the usual fear-mongering blarney, and this is a tactic we are seeing duplicated throughout the country.

Nevertheless, some good people persisted. Learn what is happening in Sonoma from Wake UP Sonoma co-founders Lisa Storment and Veronica Napoles, and how we can help get the word out and increase the ability for the community to fight back through media exposure and support.
