Stormy Weather

The sea was angry that day, my friend. It swirled, churned, and pounded — or maybe that’s just my emotions as a I revisit the theft of the 2016 election.

I love writing to the sound of rain against my windows, but today, each drop feels like an exclamation point on that which is remains unchecked, and that which still threatens the US.

Yesterday it occurred to me that while Trump has been trending downward on key metrics since 2018, Mike Flynn has been succeeding for the Russians, and it appears nothing is being done to divert his radicalization efforts. There appear to be two completely different mediaspheres — that which is viewed and read by the majority of citizens — and the rabbit holes of conspiracy peddlers, which have lured away about a third of America.

I learn these things as a student of history and of great reporters…

“Instead of seeing Russia as a democracy in the process of failing, we need to see it as an authoritarian system in the process of succeeding..if that’s correct, when did that start? And that’s what took me to the ‘90s - they were stealing from the very beginning.”—Karen Dawisha, Frontline PBS

Clearly, revisiting the destruction of the Women’s March by Russian operatives working in teams to pit us against each other has me on red alert for the operations that continue today. As I wrote, let us be made of tougher stuff, and not so readily think the worst of each other.

If you already read the post above, please revisit, as I added some video clips from the Women’s March, and I also added a revelation, that seven years ago tomorrow, when I was still in Washington, I wrote a blog post called Bette Dangerous, and Other Women Who March. I had forgotten that is what I titled that dispatch from DC.

Big Hugs

Big virtual hugs to all of the new paid members who joined during the brokest month of the year. I am truly grateful.

I am looking so forward to an attitude adjustment tomorrow at noon, when we get together for our weekly Happy Hour, a wellness checkin for global newsies. I always feel so much better after our meetings.

We will be joined by our dear friend Martin Sheil, who will bring us an update on an important carve out that he predicted from new legislation designed to expose the beneficial owners of shell companies. And we will also get updates on the court cases of Trumplandia, and whatever else the retired IRS criminal investigator thinks important, such as: “positive economic indicators and the potential kitchen table impact on 2024 election, tempered a bit by corporate greedflation and the coming SCOTUS welcome news to corporate America with the coming decision eviserating Chevron…”

Paid members, can access the registration info below for our Happy Hour, and if you would like to become a Bette member, you can do so here:
