Mwah! A How-To Guide for Members Chat
A big thank you for making the friends and family sale a success and a note for new members on how to join our private chat <3
Thank you to everyone who upgraded to Founding Member status and to those who promoted the friends and family sale and gifted memberships. We just added three dozen new members from around the world — Bette Dangerous is now read in all 50 states, 47 countries, including Russia!
Since we have many new members, I just wanted to zip out an explainer on how to join the Bette Dangerous members chat. If you’re not yet a paid member, and wish to join us at our ‘Speakeasy’ zoom salons, weekly Happy Hour wellness checkins, and gain access to all archives — including podcasts and the new American Monster series, please join us at 25% off for the first year here:
The group chat is a vital tool for members to communicate — due to toxic online abuse, my Substack ‘likes and comments’ are turned off until the company patches holes in its security.
So our group chats are where we come together to comment on posts, recent events, swap ideas, and music, and where I send registration and calendar event reminders.
NEW PAID MEMBERS: To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens. Or feel free to turn off notifications and dip and out at your leisure.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Lastly, some of you do not wish to use the email associated with your Substack account to download the app, so paid members who find themselves in this predicament, please reach out to me directly at bettedangerous@gmail.com, and we can strategize a workaround.
What we have built here in six months is an incredibly passionate pro-democracy community willing to learn and willing to do the hard work of securing our democracy for future generations.
I am glad you are here.

Bette Dangerous is a reader-funded magazine. Thank you to all monthly, annual, and founding members. Thank you as well to all those who support my work with your generous coffee tips and who buy my ebooks. Some of you prefer making subsidizing donations via venmo, and it’s always greatly appreciated. Save the date: Ruth Ben-Ghiat is our next ‘Speakeasy’ guest July 30, 4 pm PT. If you are not yet a member, please join us for this vibrant conversation.
If you wish to gift a membership, you can do so by donating to the ko-fi or venmo accounts, and indicate it’s for a gift, or do so here:
Also, a private link to an annual membership discount for older adults, those on fixed incomes or drawing disability, as well as activists and members of the media is available upon request at bettedangerous@gmail.com. 🥹
