Hello Heidi,
This is what I have been waiting for: German Gref just publicly announced that the Russian economy will implode if government war spending does not stop.
This “guns or butter” message to Putin comes from the CEO of Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank. Gref is a long time associate of Putin from St. Petersburg and what was known as Putin’s Ozero cooperative.
One of two things must now happen shortly (next couple of weeks):
Gref’s dead body will be found after he ‘jumped’ out of a window or fell down a long staircase.
Putin announces a ceasefire with Ukraine freezing current troop placements by both sides with intense peace negotiations to begin ASAP.
The outlines of a territorial agreement are in place.
Crimea, or large portions of Crimea, in exchange for Donbas, or large portions of Donbas.
Putin will have to concede Crimea in exchange for Zelensky’s ceding of Donbas. The EU will provide military guarantees to Ukraine, who will promise to never join NATO.
Should the above off-ramp to the war be effectuated, then both Putin and Zelensky will remain in power for a short period of time.
Furthermore, Russian oligarch Abramovich just visited Kyiv. Abramovich attempted to serve as an intermediary between Putin and Zelensky early on after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It should be noted that it was Abramovich that informed Yeltsin that he was done as President to be replaced by Putin. Abramovich could be useful as an intermediary here once again.
The alternative is ugly.
Russian oligarchs are balking at Putin raising the Vig. Russian pedestrians are engaging in fist fights at the queues lining up for petro at local gas stations.
The Russian military is divided.
Generals are getting assassinated.
Soldiers returning home from the front are getting into trouble.
