Today’s Hot Type column for Byline Supplement was born out of conversation with my podcast partner High Fidelity. He said, ‘You know what Trump should do…’
Why the Democrats haven’t tapped HiFi to be their Roger Stone is a mystery.
Thank you as always to everyone who supports my work here and at Byline. I believe the work of independent investigative reporters exposing the transnational crime wave has revealed the failing of corporate media in stark contrast.

Below is an excerpt from today’s Hot Type:
How Trump Could End Up Double Crossing Putin In Ukraine's Favour
Don't be surprised if the incoming President takes the opportunity to bury his long complicity with the Russian demagogue through a staggering act of betrayal by Heidi Siegmund Cuda
“Few people who knew Trump had illusions about him. That was almost his appeal: he was what he was. Twinkle in his eye, larceny in his soul.”― Michael Wolff, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House
Last week, an American President was eulogized. The same American President who said that “Donald Trump was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.” The same President who warned of catastrophic climate change more than half a century ago. And the same President who lost his bid for reelection because of crimes committed by GOP operatives.
Jimmy Carter was a beloved public servant.
Donald Trump is a con man and a convicted felon.
Due to the invisible war – the Great Information War – millions of voters still don’t know how hard the Russians worked to get their man into the White House and how, for Putin, Donald Trump is just another Viktor Yanukovych indebted to the Kremlin.
With the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, vying for the role of acting President and incoming VP JD Vance being the ingénue of choice for the technocracy, Trump has to watch his back 24/7…
So in this gangster’s paradise, what’s an out-of-work actor larping as a politician to do to ensure longevity?
The double cross.
If Trump were to double down on US support of Ukraine, an already weakened Putin could be brought to his knees and Trump’s debt, and likely kompromat, would be buried along with Putin’s dreams of empire.
Hitler and Stalin
And there’s even a template for this type of perfidy.
As reporter and Shadow Network author Anne Nelson told me, Adolf Hitler double-crossed Joseph Stalin, after signing a non-aggression pact in 1939…
She said what this meant was “officially, it was a declaration that Hitler and Stalin ‘trusted’ each other to abide by the pact.”
But the trust was just an illusion, and Hitler was the first to break his word, with the invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941.
“The Soviet forces were utterly unprepared, and the initial phase of the invasion was a massive success. Stalin was stunned and disbelieving — even though he had received a number of warnings from his own intelligence services and others.”
Geopolitical analyst Dr Michael MacKay, who has documented Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine for a decade, told Byline Supplement: “If Trump abandons Ukraine he will be the World's Biggest Loser. If he goes on doing what Putin tells him to do, Trump will be seen as weaker than Biden, weaker than Obama.
“For Trump, everything is personal. He is incapable of abstract reasoning. He also has no moral character and simply believes the last thing he's heard. For the last 40 years, the people who have whispered poison into Trump's ear have been Russians, oligarchs, fascists, con men and charlatans. Trump needs to get the message that capitulating to Russian aggression will mark him forever as a weakling, a coward and a puppet – the opposite of the grandiose self-image he's built for himself.”
Stolen Valor
MacKay suggests that Trump might enjoy stolen valor.
“Ukrainians are courageous for defending Western civilization from the Russian fascist invaders without fighting allies,” MacKay told Byline Supplement. “By backing the victory of Ukrainians in Russia's war, Trump can steal their valour and take credit for the final defeat of the Moscow empire.”
MacKay said that if Trump embraces this concept, he’ll be remembered in history as more than just an orange-faced propagandist.
“If he changes course, history will remember Trump as the hero who did what no US President has been able to do since 1917: destroy the Russian terrorist state,” said MacKay. “If he keeps on the way he's going, history will note Trump as Putin's half-witted Gauleiter – the weakling who destroyed American power and prestige.”
…
“We know Trump is owned by Putin, and how that must rankle him - a big, tough guy like Trump beholden to a malevolent little sawed- off pipsqueak like Putin,” Silicon Valley technologist and my podcast co-host High Fidelity told Byline Supplement. “We don’t know what hold Putin has on Trump, it could be anything from money laundering to a pee tape to any one of a thousand other things. But we do know, if Ukraine defeats Russia and drives all the way to Moscow, Putin is finished. In so many ways, Putin’s defeat benefits Trump. The man who holds Trump’s leash would be gone.”
Not only has Putin been charged with war crimes for trafficking Ukrainian children to Russia, but multiple countries are signaling that they’re not putting up with his behavior anymore.
In a rare public rebuke, an Iranian General, Behrouz Esbati, criticized Russia for its role in the collapse of the Assad regime. According to multiple reports, Esbati accused Moscow of deceiving Iran, which undermines Tehran and Moscow’s public-facing unity.
As reporter Olga Lautman wrote: “It serves as a stark reminder that authoritarian regimes do not have true alliances; they are united by a shared goal of undermining the global order but are ultimately mired in betrayal, self-interest, and the abandonment of their allies when they are no longer deemed useful.”
Further humiliating Putin is Russia’s poor showing in Ukraine, where Russian soldiers go to push up daisies.
Although America’s Fifth Column traitors constantly fearmonger on behalf of Putin about potential nuclear willy-waving, all Putin has excelled at so far is KGB mindfuckery.
Rendezvous
There’s a cartoon of Hitler meeting Stalin titled “Rendezvous” by Sir David Low, a political cartoonist for the London Evening Standard who skewered dictators and beat Hitler’s attempts to censor him. Over the body of Poland, Hitler greets Stalin: “The scum of the earth, I believe?” Stalin responds: “The bloody assassin of the workers, I presume?”
So Trump has a decision to make: remain the puppet of a regime that is going broke after three years of war and Western sanctions disassembling its economy.
Or… he could join the Ukrainian Resistance.
