Once the statues of Trump begin appearing in front of post offices, be mindful of your face. There will be cameras.

Among the many lessons I learned from friends who grew up under Soviet rule is the dual personalities they adopted to survive. My friends from Romania, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia told me that outside their homes, they played the role of good comrade. Inside their homes, they whispered.

In a surveillance state turned evil, it’s imperative to do a communications inventory.

It would be a good idea to begin the personal purging of any convenience tech you can live without — for example, you don’t want extra microphones in your home or car.

Might be a good time to buy a Thomas Guide again. Bicycles are nice.

A staff of three used to be required to tap a phone, but with the advent of AI, it requires a staff of zero. Therefore, every electronic communication should be considered public.

Adopting a less is more philosophy when sharing personal details is something true friends will understand.

Being more circumspect should become second nature.

Those casual conversations among casual acquaintances could be mined for profit.

Anything you can do analog, consider it.

This is just to get people to think.

The new cold alliances are creating a cold war environment and the freedoms we once took for granted are diminishing.

As I reflect back to those freedoms, they included freedom from tech surveillance.

I grew up with one phone in my home — on public display in the kitchen. To make a call, I had to wait for my sisters or parents to get off the phone, which would send out a busy signal until the line was freed up. Upon reflection, that wasn’t such a bad deal.
