Calendaring Bette — Save These Dates!
Bette Dangerous members Thom Hartmann and Melissa Jo Peltier will be our featured guests at upcoming community events so please mark your calendars <3
I am so pleased to inform our vibrant pro-democracy community that the next ‘Speakeasy’ zoom salon will feature bestselling author and top progressive talk show host Thom Hartmann.
Thom has been a Bette reader since the early weeks of launching this substack, and I am thrilled he will be joining us.
In addition, Founding member Melissa Jo Peltier — an award-winning filmmaker — will be joining us for our next Founder’s Day — a monthly event for those who support my writing above the annual subscription rate.
Dates and times are below, and if you are not yet a paid member, please consider joining our community. I am watching friendships form across the universe among our members, and I am truly inspired by the work that so many of you are doing. From your own writing, to postcarding, phone banking, and bringing us intel from throughout the world.
This week we had a fantastic ‘Speakeasy’ with Monique Camarra, whose EuroFile and Kremlin File are so important.
In addition, our weekly Happy Hour for global newsies was really special — we shared stories of things with wings and truly enjoyed each other’s company.
Activism can be a lonely place, but the community we’re building ensures we never have to do this work alone.
If you would like to join us at 30% off the annual rate please do so here:
The first two new annual paying members will receive a $50 gift card to ClassifiedShirts.com, which is run by a fellow activist in Florida, who I met when I ordered my ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’ mug that I feature in every episode of RadPod because I love it so much.
In addition, all Bette readers and RadPod viewers can receive 25% off his merch by typing: RADICALIZED in the discount code box at ClassifiedShirts.com.
Grateful to be meeting such fantastic people as I do this work.
Okay, so here are the upcoming calendar dates for the first few weeks of September, registration links will be sent to paid members in advance of each event:
Tuesday, September 5, 5 pm PT
Bette’s Happy Hour — a weekly wellness checkin for global newsies
Sunday, September 10, 4 pm PT
Bette’s ‘Speakeasy’ zoom salon — featuring Thom Harmann. As many of our members know, Thom is a New York Times best-selling author of 36 books in print and the #1 progressive talk show host in America for more than a decade. Thom has co-written and been featured in 6 documentaries with Leonardo DiCaprio about climate change. A former psychotherapist, entrepreneur and refugee worker helping the worldwide Salem group start homes for abandoned and abused children all over the world, Thom’s daily Substack writing is at www.HartmannReport.com. Thom and his wife Louise live in Portland, Oregon with a small menagerie of cats, dogs, ducks & geese. Thom has been kind enough to feature my work on his show, including my report in Byline Supplement, ‘Unmusked: How Elon Musk is Using Twitter to Destroy the Concept of Objective Truth’. I’m excited because I’m going to dive into some of his books so I can prepared for a fantastic hour with Thom.
Tuesday, September 12, noon PT
Bette’s Happy Hour — our weekly wellness checkin for global newsies (Monique will likely be there and if news breaks, we’ll bring in Marty)
Sunday, September 17, 4 pm PT
Founders’ Day — featuring Melissa Jo Peltier, director of the award-winning documentary The Game Is Up — a brilliant film about former Trump supporters who each share their own experiences of how they snapped out of it. I have been trying to get Melissa for months, but she has been film festival hopping to collect more awards and is also directing more films. Melissa is a veteran producer, who is among one of Bette’s first Founding Members, which is such an honor. She has been a featured guest on RadPod, and I can’t wait for you all to meet her!
Okay, looking forward to seeing you in the squares. I’ll be writing into the wee hours — a Byline investigation that I’m excited about. If you didn’t get a chance to read my latest report for Byline, please do so below and thank you to everyone who supports independent investigative journalism.
I will be sharing more stories from the desert soon, and in the meantime, here are images from sunrise in the Chollo Garden at Joshua Tree National Park inspired by our member Audrey Peterman, who shares sunrises from Jamaica and inspired me to stop missing so many of these sacred moments. Scroll down to see a short video clip as well.
