DATA AND DECEPTION — Bette’s Speakeasy Zoom salon featuring Brent Allpress
Sunday, January 28, 4 pm PT/7 pm ET
Our special guest Brent Allpress is a Melbourne-based New Zealand academic. His OSInt research featured in the documentary People You May Know revealed Cambridge Analytica and Gloo exploited mental health data for microtargeting. He has exposed clandestine Council for National Policy campaigns and uncovered StoptheSteal at its inception. Allpress shared his findings with the J6 Committee and is leading a charge to have the CNP forensically investigated for its role in the attempted coup and in what he describes as a Judicial coup.
Registration link will be sent in advance and accessible to ALL membership levels
RUSSIA’S WAR ON EVERYBODY — Bette’s Founder’s Day featuring Keir Giles
Sunday, February 4, 1:30 pm PT/4:30 pm ET
Author and Russian cyberwar expert Keir Giles is a Senior Consulting Fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Programme of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in London. He is also a director of the Conflict Studies Research Centre, a group of subject matter experts in Eurasian security, based in Northamptonshire, UK.
After a brief career in the Royal Air Force, followed by travelling widely in the Soviet Union during his first degree in Russian, Keir Giles co-founded the first company providing Western pilots the opportunity to fly Soviet military aircraft, operating from sites near Moscow and in Crimea. He went on to write for several years as Russia correspondent for a range of military and civilian aviation journals. Giles is the author of "Moscow Rules: What Drives Russia to Confront the West" (Brookings, January 2019), an examination of the persistent factors causing relations with Russia to fall into crisis. His latest book, "Russia's War on Everybody" (Bloomsbury, 2022) examines the human impact of Russia's covert warfare waged against the West.
Russia’s War on Everybody is out on paperback tomorrow, and I ask Bette members who can afford to do so, to please support the work of our guests by purchasing their books. If you have already purchased the book in hardcover, the paperback has a new preface.
Founding Members will receive the registration link in advance. Founders support my work at the premium level, and if you would like to upgrade your membership, you can do so here. In addition, a personal invite will be sent to anyone renewing at the original full annual rate.
Last bit of business: please note that Bette’s Tuesday Happy Hour — our weekly wellness checkin for global newsies — takes place at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET January 30. For new members: we alternate the time each week, starting at either noon PT or 5 pm PT. This week it is in the evening, and these events — which often feature special guests — are open to all levels of membership.
