***Events are for paid members. Please consider taking out a membership and supporting independent investigative journalism.***
I am thrilled to offer a preview of upcoming events planned for Bette Dangerous members to make sure you have the opportunity to mark your calendars in advance. I am adjusting the schedule slightly to accommodate travel plans.
Here goes…
Sunday, Nov. 26, 4 pm PT — Bette’s Speakeasy with Aquilino Gonell —author of “American Shield” — the Immigrant Sergeant Who Defended Democracy
Frm. Sgt. Aquilino Gonell is a Dominican immigrant, former U.S. Army soldier, and Iraq War veteran. For seventeen years, he was a United States Capitol Police officer and was one of four police officers who testified before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 insurrection. He is, as you know, an American hero.
I will be sending out the zoom registration invite a day or two in advance to all paid members and as always, I ask Bette members who can afford to do so, to please support our authors by purchasing their books.
Below is a link to Frm. Sgt. Gonell’s book:
You can read my report, republished today, that highlights his passionate, eloquent testimony in front of the January 6 Committee:
Monday, Nov. 27, noon PT — Bette’s Happy Hour
This week’s Happy Hour will be on Monday at noon, rather than our usual Tuesday gathering time, and I will send out an additional reminder in advance to members re the day/time change.
Sunday, Dec. 10, 4 pm PT — Founder’s Day with Dr. Gary Slutkin
I am pleased to offer my premium members the opportunity to meet Dr. Gary Slutkin, who some of you know through Lucid but may not know his incredible work in the field of treating violence as a contagious disease. Dr. Slutkin is a World Health Organization (WHO) physician and epidemiologist who led efforts to combat epidemics in over 25 countries in east and central Africa, Latin America, and Asia. At the WHO, he founded the Intervention Development Unit and Dr. Slutkin also adapted epidemic control methods to violence - founding and leading Cure Violence Global, rated as the #9 NGO in the world, and rated the #1 NGO for reducing violence in the world. He will explain his research on violence as a contagion, and here is a link to a Ted Talk that clearly lays out his findings, which proved to be very prescient.

Much more to come!
Wishing everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving. You’ll find me stargazing under a night sky after feeding a bunch of people in recovery — both are my happy places.
Onward and upward!
