Byline Supplement - The Redemption of a Former Oath Keeper
My latest for Byline Supplement is an interview with former Oath Keeper ‘propandist’ Jason Van Tatenhove
Please read my latest interview for Byline Supplement The Redemption of a Former Oath Keeper, and if you can affort to, please take out a subscription for Byline Supplement . You will be supporting a great team of independent investigative journalists. And as you know, I believe reader-funded reporting is what is going to save the world. Seriously.
I first met Jason Van Tatenhove when he came on RadPod after testifying to the January 6 Committee about what he knew about the violent militia group, the Oath Keepers. By then, we were already friendly.
We bonded over him wearing a Descendents tshirt to testify in front of the world. I have seen the SoCal punk band perform many times, and my best friend was on tour with them when Jason and I got acquainted. I asked him to put in a good word for Jason with the band, who issued a statement disavowing him before they knew his story.
I believe no one who seeks redemption is beyond it, and Jason sought redemption.
One night, when I was feeling terribly blue about a break up, I reached out to Jason. He was so kind, and talked me gently off the ledge. I have no idea why I texted him, but I am glad I did. It was on night he shared some of his personal experiences with me, and he also shared his art with me. He comes from a family of artists and a relationship he had with a trans woman inspired one of his art exhibits.
Please check out our Byline Supplement interview. Jason’s words offer a cautionary tale of a warring future if we do not begin the deradicalization process in our homes with our own neighbors, today.
You can learn more about Jason and his writings by checking out his Substack, and by also checking out his upcoming book, Perils of Extremism.
