‘The Back Story’

So Marty and I met after I tracked him down during the holidays of 2019. I had read and reread and read and reread his in-depth reporting on Who What Why and Medium on Deutsche Bank, and following the money ties between American and Russian oligarchs.

From our first phone call, when he admonished me for calling him ‘Mr. Sheil’ - and said, ‘Call me Marty’, I knew I had made a pal.

I wrote our first thread in the Tucson airport. I was searching for just the right word to describe Trump’s money entanglements, and I blurted out:

“Corrosive!”

It was gattdang perfect.
