While hanging out in The White Hart pub in Dartington at the Byline Festival, I met a young reporter and activist,Homar Paez, who began telling me horror stories from the recent election in Mexico.
I immediately got his number and booked him for RadPod. Part of what we do on RADICALIZED Truth Survives podcast — our weekly investigative show about disinformation — is make sure we bring our viewers news from around the world, having identified early on that we are in a global information war, which is quite simply war with new weaponry.
In the report above in Byline Supplement, Homar wrote:
The electoral season was the deadliest in its modern history, with a total number of 37 assassinated candidates in the lead-up to the elections on 2 June. More than 400 candidates asked the INE for protection and security for their campaigns. The opposition criticised AMLO's 'hugs, not bullets' approach to tackling organised crime, pointing to the rise in violence across the country as evidence of its ineffectiveness. A prominent newspaper in Spain, El Mundo, reported that AMLO’s failure to curb violence tainted Mexico's elections.
Homar, who was registered to vote in the June election, was denied a vote by mail ballot, as were an estimated 50,000 other people. Currently living in the UK, he took the step to fly to Mexico to cast his vote and that was where he found there was a ballot shortage on election day. People were turned away due to lack of ballots after waiting for hours to take their turn. See his video clip below:
It’s worth noting, we booked our interview with Homar before the Trump rally shooting.
Learning of the massive number of assassinations of candidates who were not part of the cartel-endorsed party was unnerving, particularly as disgraced lt. general Mike Flynn promises black swan events.
As Homar says, “everyone of us needs to be a bit more proactive.”
Please watch our interview with Homar here:
Learn what Mexico lost by not electing the pro-democracy candidate in the race with a coalition organized around her that was historic, and instead — like Meloni in Italy — they get soft fascism.
