Adopt a Climate Refugee: Helping Jenna
My sister's best friend lost her home in the Eaton fire. Here's how you can help.

I’ve got Jenna covered with clothes, household goods, and furniture, and we’re working on housing. But she and her daughter are among the thousands of displaced families whose homes burned down in the catastrophic fires that swept through the Los Angeles area this week.
I documented some of that experience in my recent post, Everything Is Fine :(
I spent Saturday afternoon with my younger sister’s best friend, Jenna, who was shell-shocked, stoic, graceful, and holding up as well as could be.
She worked hard for all the things she had and lost everything when her Altadena home burned to the ground.
Many of you have reached out to ask how you could help, and I thought why not adopt a climate refugee. As I wrote in my print recap of RadPod’s interview with Dr. Nancy MacLean, the Koch cadre knew that climate change was real back in 1959, and spent billions obfuscating our understanding of that reality. Well, reality is biting back.
Yesterday, running errands, I saw pop up clothing swaps throughout Pasadena, California, and the Rose Bowl is operating as a giant triage center, with donations pouring in from all over the world.
If you would like to help my friend Jenna, you can Venmo donations here:
And if you prefer, here is a gofundme page that was just launched that offers a glimpse into who this special person is:
As always, thank you for your big hearts.

Hi Bette,
An idea I had a few d ago, shared with R. Solnit, whom I don't know, sharing with you in hopes that this idea might gain traction somewhere - what if there were a mediation service to connect the millions of good people who have extra space in their homes with the thousands of people who are going to need a place to stay for the next several months? I'm in the first group. If people in need of medium-term housing could be effectively screened somehow, I might consider opening my home to someone, and I know a lot of us would do so, if the conditions were right. Just wanted to pass this on.
Praying for Jenna and her daughter, and for all of you out there, Heidi, it's so heartbreaking. I have no words anymore. May every little bit be multiplied bigger.
