A Tribute to the President of the United States on January 6
On the second anniversary of this dark day in American history, let us send light to our great President for doing the labor of Democracy
As chaos agents in Congress were acting their parts to destabilize American democracy in fealty to Putin - the supreme leader of white supremacists and oil gangsters - President Joe Biden was asked to comment.
“That’s not my problem,” he said, channeling Jimmy Stewart as the affable everyman. “What I focus on is to get things done.”
It is quite brilliant that while Elon Musk is platforming Nazis and traitors on Twitter, while transmitting messages for Putin, according to Fiona Hill, and while performative chaos is occurring in Congress, Joe Biden remains focused on serving the American people.
Instead of drawing attention to himself, he just goes about doing the work of democracy. Infrastructure package, scaled covid-19 vaccinations and relief, college debt relief, safer communities act to reduce gun violence, climate change investments and rejoined the Paris Agreement, ended America’s longest running war, reduced child poverty, capped prescription drug prices, imposed corporate tax minimum, strengthened the NATO alliance, held Putin accountable for his war in Ukraine by imposing harsh sanctions, created more jobs in one year than any other president in history, reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act, signed the Marriage Equality Act…
There is so much more to be done, and he just keeps chipping away at the labor of democracy. He is responsible for America’s first female African American Supreme Court Justice and his partner in all this work is our first female Vice President, who is also a woman of color.
These incredible causes for celebration and reflection at how far we have come get lost under the distractions by Putin’s Fifth column actor-traitors. As if we have become addicted to reality tv grotesques, Kremlin-Mar-a-Lago style.
It is true, the destabilization agents command the headlines as they denigrate our country with every utterance. They are platformed on corporate news in feeble attempts to distract from all the crimes of the Republican party - such as the coordinated attempt to violently overthrow our country two years ago today.
As Ruth Ben-Ghiat wrote in her statement for the January 6 Committee:
Legacies of Jan. 6 as a Radicalizing Event
Whether or not Trump runs for office in 2024, the time-tested methods of autocracy - electoral manipulation, voter suppression, the criminalization of protest, political violence, and disinformation designed to increase polarization - are now part of the way the GOP conducts its business as a far-right party.
Jan. 6 has now become a foundational event of a new GOP that defines itself around violence and lawlessness, both framed as the patriotic protection of American freedom. So, it's logical that the party would actively court individuals who participated in the Capitol assault to populate its leadership ranks.
And while the people watch in horror at the latest Insurrection occurring in Washington, and Elon Musk replatforms such sinister domestic traitors as Mike Flynn, one man just keeps doing his job. Thankfully, that man is our President.
Today, he handed out medals of valor for those who stood in the breach to prevent the overthrow of our democracy - who embodied “the best before, during, and after January the 6th 2021.”
"History will remember your names. They'll remember your courage. They'll remember your bravery. They'll remember your extraordinary commitment to your fellow Americans,” he said.
His goodness and decency and hard work on behalf of the American people give me hope for our future.
Thank you Mr. President.🤍
Beautiful -- and such sentiments could have gotten lost in today's chaos. Thank you for speaking this truth so eloquently. President Biden is a decent human being and we are so lucky to have him leading our nation at this moment.
Does anyone think that our grand media establishments will ever find it worthy of their efforts to actually inform the citizenry of the truly exciting achievements of our President and his team? Or has the entire premise of the “Fourth Estate” been burned to ashes in a Snapchat world?
