A Loving Message to President Carter

Author’s Note: This tribute to President Jimmy Carter was originally published on February 19, 2023, when I learned he was receiving hospice care. Today, on the news of his death at 100 years old, I am reposting, along with additional links to other reporting on this good and empathetic man.
A Loving Message to President Carter
As I am certain many of you know, our beloved President Jimmy Carter is receiving hospice care. My eyes are misting up as a type this because I never fell for the smear campaigns against that wonderful, decent, good and loving man. I was a teenager when he was President, and I loved him then, and I love him now.
He was ahead of his time, in understanding climate justice and the crisis we face. He did so much for good geopolitical relations, and the same network that plagues our world today, conspired to get him out of office. For reference, read my report with Dave Troy - The Network.
And remember that peanut farm? He was so intent on not having any conflicts of interest as a President, he returned from Washington to a business in shambles and spent the next five decades doing good in this world. He was still hammering away to build housing for the less fortunate deep into his 90s.
I want to share this quote from President Carter for you. It means so much to me and I have returned to it over and over again on low days as evidence that the work I do has merit.
“I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.”-Former President Jimmy Carter 6/27/2019
A former President of the United States said that Trump lost the election and was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf. He knew.

Heidi Siegmund Cuda: Why did you release Den of Spies on Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday?
Craig Unger: It's long past due for history to be honest to him. He went out and lost his reelection campaign in 1980 and was basically characterized as a weak president that allowed the United States to be humiliated. And what I write about in Den of Spies is a covert operation run by the Republicans that sabotaged Carter's attempts to bring home the hostages, and they really hijacked American foreign policy, and I believe it was a treasonous covert operation by the Reagan-Bush campaign.”
HSC: We would be living in a very different America if we could go back in time and change the outcome to that election, and can you speak on what was set in motion when this occurred to basically steal the reelection from Carter and install Reagan?
CU: This was a critical moment in American history. It was a watershed in so many ways. For one thing, this was the start of the so-called Reagan revolution. This was the birth of American conservatism, and I think it's extremely important, in that what I show is they got into office thanks to a treasonous covert operation that sabotaged an American Presidential Election.

President Carter understood what Reagan's Den of Spies did that October, so he saw what Trump and his thugs did. Yes, he knew- and even though he was characterized (almost slammed by some) as a gentle man, he had the integrity and courage to speak out often. A president and American we can be proud of. Let's do this for Jimmy.
