Travels with Bette Update <3
Thank you to everyone upgrading and donating to support my ambitious summer “workation”
Thanks to each and every one of you for supporting my work with a paid membership. I feel like we’ve really been hitting the ground running in recent weeks, working at full capacity.
I am so excited about our recent Bette meetings, and recent RadPod guests, as well as my upcoming travels. I will have more on that over the weekend, but all of your upgrades and donations are making it possible for me to meet really important allies in real life and up my reporting game.
Thanks to Bette members and the Byline team, I am so happy with my Florida report:
“In those moments when it feels so scary, like it’s all falling apart, you have to remember that you cannot erase consciousness.”
—Stratton Polltizer, Equality Florida
My travels to Sonoma, California, last week also offered some vital gems. I will be transcribing an interview from Anne Nelson and Peter Coyote from Wake Up Sonoma’s Bad Faith screening as soon as time allows, but please share this with your networks as I think news delayed is news denied:
When a guest at the Bad Faith screening asked how we can reach young people who are turning against Joe Biden over the atrocities in Gaza, Coyote told a story of when he was a young activist in the ‘60s. He cautioned that because young people had become single-issue voters over the war in Vietnam they refused to vote for Hubert Humphrey and by so doing, unleashed decades of GOP rule — first Nixon, later Reagan.
He explained had they thought it through, they would have realized that not supporting Humphrey was a vote for Nixon.
Looking forward to sharing more with you soon, and if you have not yet seen Bad Faith, please do so asap. Coyote narrates the documentary, which is based largely on Anne Nelson’s excellent book, Shadow Network.
And please don’t miss our upcoming Happy Hour with Adam Sybera — I have learned so much from him already.
Before I hop on my next plane, I am asking anyone who can for another round of support.
A couple more Founding Member upgrades ought to get me through my next trip.
I am heading to both Washington, DC, and the UK. As you know, the complete assault on reality is incredibly well-financed and independent investigative reporters, not so much. Many of you have already done so much, and the Byline Team as well, and I am so grateful.
Your support helps me not only fight narrative warfare by making in-real-life global contacts also on the frontlines of the information war, but it gives all of us a fighting chance at a better outcome in November. I am sharing the words and experiences of brilliant people to help our pro-democracy cause. What happens in the US matters throughout the world for all our future.
Your support of my writing has allowed me to focus exclusively on meaningful work.
If you are able to do so, I am hoping to encourage any of the following:
Share my reporting with allies to encourage support
Buy my ebooks — I extended the birthday promo through June
Ko-fi shop promo code — Birthday-Special
Special thank you to all of you out there who let me know that you’re willing to be my “break glass in case of emergency” supporters. That has given me wings. One member in particular got me up the I-5 last week when the banking gods were not on my side lol.
As always, thank you to everyone who supports my work with your monthly, annual, and Founding memberships. I am so grateful.
Onward and upward!
