“Harris’ speech: reasonable, intelligent, steadfast human with a firm grasp on generalities and specifics of American problems and international affairs. She understands our country: its realities and aspirations. It's time to move America forward. She'll make a great President.”—Wes Clark Jr
I hope everyone is enjoying the fruits of their labor this long weekend and a mango jalapeno dog or three (oh wait, that’s me lol).
I also hope those of you spending time with family across the ideological divide are practicing self care, nurturing yourself emotionally.
As President Obama said in his DNC speech:
“If a parent or grandparent occasionally says something that makes us cringe, we don’t automatically assume they’re bad people. We recognize the world is moving fast, that they need time and maybe a little encouragement to catch up.”
I am so proud of myself for the restraint and patience I put into practice around the olders in my life. I love them, no matter what. It ain’t always easy, but practicing decency has positive ripple effects.
Bette’s Speakeasy with Wes Clark Jr today, Sunday, at 4 pm Pacific
Looking so forward to bringing back my friend Wes Clark Jr to get us motivated for our Big Win this November.
I asked him to send me a new quote to get you guys pumped up, and here is what he sent me lol:
“We may be stupid and lazy, but we’re not that stupid and lazy.”
—Wes Clark Jr for Bette Dangerous lolololol
So of course, High Fidelity now wants the tshirt.
What Wes is saying, in my opinion, is that although we’ve taken our democracy for granted, we know we’ve got to work. And if we all do just a little more, we’ll get there.
More from Wes here:
“Don’t panic. A lot of the totalitarian methods have to do with promoting incompetent people who are liars to get you to lose faith in your institutions. Just vote those fucking people out, it’s not impossible. Go up and cast your vote, say: ‘Enough bullshit. Here you go, straight ticket. Get the fuck out of the statehouse, too.’ That’s how you do it.”
—Wes Clark Jr. on Bette Dangerous Podcast, Ep83
Those of you who listen to Bette podcasts got the chance to hear directly from Wes in April.
Wes, who is the subject of the podcast American Psyop, is a writer, a veteran and environment activist. He has the ability to cut through the noise — or wade through the flooding zone of shit — to get to the heart of what matters.
“One of fascism's goals is to unleash the beast and turn us into animals: prey and predator. They do it by spreading fear and bloodlust. Lot of monsters out there growing fangs. Stay human.”—Wes Clark Jr.
Among my favorite Wes-isms is:
“The line between reality and imaginary bullshit has been erased.”
And this one, which he is forced to repeat on Twitter frequently:
“I’m not the general. I’m his son.”
A perfect future book title.
Both Wes and I got into this fight over environmental concerns, and in this episode of RadPod, Wes offered up hard truths about the future of our planet.
He also offered his expertise for my desert crises report in Byline Supplement:
In that report, I quote Wes as saying:
“We put an enormous amount of carbon into the atmosphere, and we have dangerous lunatics in charge of countries,” environmental activist, Wes Clark Jr, said in a recent interview on my podcast, RADICALIZED Truth Survives. “They keep imagining that someone is gonna come save us, there will be a miracle technology that we suddenly make, or Jesus will come down, or aliens will come down. None of that is going to happen. What’s going to happen is physics is going to happen. And physics and math are predictable. We have massively f**ked up our environment and we need to find a way to fix this, but it’s going to take honesty, science, understanding chemistry and physics and not relying on someone coming to save us.”
Despite his blunt warnings, Wes remains ever optimistic:
“No one’s ever coming to save you. It’s Democracy — everything gets reset every two and four years. It’s a question of are enough of you gonna come out and vote or not? There isn’t a magic person who’s going to come fix stuff for us. It’s a matter of having enough people turnout to make stuff happen.”
Wesley Clark Jr is a Georgetown-educated screenwriter and activist, who served four years in the Army and whose namesake father, General Wesley Clark, if the former head of NATO and a decorated combat veteran for his service in Vietnam.
Come hear from Wesley directly today, September 1, 4 pm Pacific about why it’s time to move America forward and how we stay human in the process.
