As I prepared for my appearance on The Thom Hartmann Program this morning to discuss my 2016 Election Attack series — included below are the first five reports in the series — I reflected on Julian Assange and Wikileaks’ role in the 2016 US election attack. I thought to myself, now that he’s pleaded guilty to espionage do we still have to pretend he’s a journalist? He worked with Russian military intelligence to throw our 2016 election, and then tried to pin it on Seth Rich — literally destroying his parents by creating a conspiracy about their murdered son.

Journalists don’t traffic goods stolen from Russian military intelligence — and while 17 US agencies told us the Russians were behind the hacks — Assange went on Dutch TV to spread lies about Rich.

As my friend Brent Allpress says, “WikiLeaks is a platform for propaganda and laundered espionage — part of a long game of Russian linked influence operations and active measures.”

Wikileaks was used to mule cyber warfare long before we knew we were in an information war.

I understand why Assange is a hero to many, because Wikileaks covered up its laundered espionage with the fig leaf of whistleblowing.

As an investigative reporter in the Great Information War, I have learned to look at what Assange doesn’t do: anything to hurt Putin or the Kremlin, according to his own allies, he’s selective about which leaks to publish and which to withhold. Like his father John Shipton, he's anti-US and pro Kremlin. And who kept coming to his rescue? RT — he even had his own propaganda show on RT, which has been banned in the UK, EU, US, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithunia, Germany, and deplatformed by Microsoft and Apple, who removed it everywhere but Russia.

As you’ll see in this series, Julian Assange is a node in the network attacking America, and yet a cult has grown up around him. But we are in the time of Cults — the MAGA Cult, the QAnon Cult, and the Assange Cult — what do they all have in common? They traffic in Russian propaganda. They are no friends of democracy and the world would be a better place if there were more democracies in them. What we are dealing with is an oligarch network that knows global warming is real, they’re obfuscating the grab of earth’s resources with culture wars, and people such as Assange work to undermine democracy. We’ve lost 25 percent of global democracies in the last decade, and if we lose democracy in America, we enter a very dark period.

The Crime Scene

Twitter 2016 is a crime scene. The chalk outline around the decaying corpse is an ominous warning — metaphorical yellow tape serves as an attempt to keep people out. But I go in — probing the bombed out traces of memetic warfare. And navigating my way between the mounds of deleted tweets and suspended accounts, I forensically piece together the carcass of 2016 — an election stolen by Kremlin-sponsored attacks facilitated by misogynistic white nationalists — superspreaders of GRU lies.

I start pulling at threads, one at a time, because criminal propagandists reveal their crimes through projection. Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones’ InfoWars, Dinesh D’Souza, Don Jr. and Glenn Greenwald are each defending Douglass Mackey, a convicted felon just sentenced to seven-months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to interfere with the 2016 election. He targeted people of color to vote for Hillary Clinton with ‘vote by text’ memes — and thousands of people contacted the line.

Voting by text isn’t a thing, but election interference is.
