When Nazis realized it was all over, that they had lost World War II, thousands of Germans committed suicide.
During the final weeks of the war, not only did high-ranking Nazis commit selbstmord, but in 1945, 7,000 suicides were reported in Berlin, alone.
I am thinking of this today because those whose greed outweighed their loyalty to humanity, truth, and decency, are in the spotlight.
We know now details about members of the media who took money from the Russians to turn people against their own democracies — and democracies, imperfect though they are, should be cherished not desecrated. They should be upgraded, not destroyed.
But with the reporting I have done this week on the RT indictment and the doppelganger affidavit, I realized that the people who took millions from the Russians will never be seen as anything but traitors ever again.
Treason pays, until it doesn’t.
They’re still out there crying victim, rationalizing their actions, even as they’re being deplatformed, thousands of videos wiped from view.
But the internet never forgets.
America may be slow to catching on, and many are still defiant that they came to their white rage authentically. But look below, at the Russian campaign topics. See how these topics directly match the poison peddled by some of the most powerful men in America. These topics were fabricated in lie factories by Russians who answered directly to Vladimir Putin.
As my reporting on the affidavit revealed, the US is just one of the countries targeted with psychological warfare. And as the RT indictment revealed, these networks of useful idiots span many countries.
But seeing these pushers of Russian narratives now on their back foot, arrogance replaced by fear, as America joins other democratic nations in fighting back against the menticide caused by Putin’s regime, I think about all those cornered Nazis.
Reality is worth saving. Certainly, the Russian agents who targeted our heads with lies through well paid proxies knew the truth. They had a clear understanding of our reality, and how to warp and twist it so we became unclear of our own truth, denied our own success, and for many, turned against the only democracy that ever loved them.
