Anyone else doing the Harris Walz this morning?
As I noted over the weekend in my Why Weird Works report, Governor Tim Walz gave us the gift of ‘weird’…
The origin of the powerfully ‘weird’ grenade is credited to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who has been pointing out the obvious on national TV.
In describing Trump and various members of the GOP, Walz told MSNBC: “That stuff is weird, they come across as weird.”
In another interview on CNN, Walz said: "I see Donald Trump talking about the wonderful Hannibal Lecter or whatever weird thing he is on tonight ... That is weird behavior. I don't think you call it anything else."
And as I wrote this morning on X/Twitter, after posting a highlight reel of Governor Walz’s comments, where he noted that Minnesota ranks “third in happiness”…
Happiness, kindness, empathy vs fear, hate, and weird — it’s an easy choice America. #HarrisWalz2024
Keeping up with all that hate being spewed by the extremist fear machine is exhausting, but today feels like a new day in the USA. Harris’ choice is a reminder that America is progressive AF, and no amount of christofascist gaming can obfuscate that fact.
As I am always reminded because I work with global teams, the fight for democratic governance is not just our fight, it’s everywhere that democracy is in peril.
That is why one of my primary purposes here is to make sure Bette members are always in front of global reporters.
We have a very important event coming up today with Zarina Zabrisky reporting live from Kherson, and I have just booked my investigative writing partner Sian Norris for our upcoming Founder’s Day on Sunday, August 11, at 1:30 Pacific. She is doing very important work on the outbreak of racist, far-right violence in cities across the UK.
I am also looking very forward to next Tuesday’s Media Literacy training with Tamar Kintsurashvilli — the Executive Director of Georgia’s Media Development Foundation — who herself is the target of terror campaigns led by pro-Russian operatives in her country.
As I wrote in Byline Supplement nearly two years ago, Russia knows it can’t win on the battlefield with the West, so Putin’s regime engages in active measures to make it appear liberal democracies are failing.
Today, it feels like a spell is breaking in a fever dream, and democracies are punching back, throwing haymakers at weirdos.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in the squares in a couple hours, and to all new members, keep scrolling to the very bottom of this post to find the registration link information.
TODAY!
Hunted in Kherson with Zarina Zabrisky
Bette’s Happy Hour with Zarina Zabrisky: Hunted in Kherson, Tuesday, August 6, noon PT
Author and war correspondent Zarina Zabrisky returns TODAY to give us updates from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and how the Russian military is using drones to hunt civilians in Kherson and how we can help get the word out. She is currently the only foreign correspondent reporting form Kherson, and she needs our help urging media to send reporters to expose these crimes. In addition, Zabrisky will have recommendations on organizations doing great humanitarian work that you can support — including pet rescue services that are truly doing some brave and amazing work.
RadPod has an upcoming interview with Zabrisky detailing these war crimes, and I will post when the video is available. In the meantime, please take the time to watch our most recent interview with her, which explains how combat propaganda works. You’ll find that link here:
And if you would like to pre-register for two of the upcoming events, here is one post with each of the links:
I highly recommend to all Bette members our upcoming media literacy training event next Tuesday, which will also be a fundraiser to keep this ‘stack in the black.
And I will send out a separate invite to premium members for our upcoming Founder’s Day event with Sian Norris. Founder’s Day is a monthly event allowing me to thank those of you who support me at the highest level. Here is another excellent report from Sian — author of Bodies Under Siege. If you would like to attend Founder’s Day events, please upgrade your membership to the premium level.
Thank you to everyone who supports my work at all levels. It means so much to me.
