Is Donald Trump Eligible for NY Unemployment Benefits?—Martin Sheil
A Bette Dangerous Sunday Op-Ed — “A Business Bummer for the Trump Clan”
Martin Sheil: Is Donald Trump eligible for NY unemployment benefits?
Judge Engoron essentially fired Citizen Trump from running his own real estate business in NY this past Friday due to fraud while also banning him from running any other business in NY for the next three years. The Marx Brothers loving Judge also banned the Trumpster’s two eldest sons from the business while keeping in place the Special Monitor to oversee the Trump Organization and adding a Compliance monitor to further ensure the cessation of any other funny business within the org.
No one was laughing at the $355M judgement the Judge asserted which when Interest of approximately $100M is added makes the near half-a-billion-dollar verdict a business bummer for the Trump clan.
Add the approximate $88M jury verdict awarded to E Jean Carroll and February has been a bad month for the Trump bank accounts which he claimed not long ago contained roughly $400M.
Whoopsie!
The DC Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that Trump does not possess Immunity from civil suits being brought by Capitol Police who were injured during the J6 Insurrection activities allegedly incited by the MAGA Chief, which could easily double the monetary damages Trump is presently contemplating.
No one is speculating that Trump will go homeless should he have to sell some properties to meet his newfound momentous liabilities, but it does appear he will have a cash flow problem.
Nikki Haley is concerned that the Trumpster’s threatened hostile takeover of the RNC is aimed at using the RNC funds to pay for Trump’s many mounting legal fees. Haley seems to think that RNC money could be better spent on prospective MAGA candidates for the House and/or Senate. Should fellow MAGA-NAUTS rally around Haley’s concerns and cut Trump’s RNC grift off, what will the master grifter do for cash in the run up to monetizing the White House should he win in November?
Should the specter of the upcoming Stormy Daniels election interference trial, known as the “Hush Money” trial, put a spotlight on Trump’s campaign fundraising given that the hush money is alleged to be campaign contributions and a 2016 election fraud, then Trump may look elsewhere to promote his grievance driven victimhood ‘poor me’ campaign by filing for New York State Unemployment benefits.
A guy has to pay for his Big Mac’s somehow!!!!
Consider the optics of the Orange Jesus standing on line at a Manhattan Unemployment office with his benefits application in hand.
Fundraising gold!
Could Trump actually be approved for Unemployment Benefits?
Unemployment insurance has been defined as temporary income for eligible workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Hmmm - anyone see a problem there?
Some relevant qualifying eligibility criteria:
Benefits are provided to people who:
Have enough employment to establish a claim
Have lost employment through no fault of their own
Are ready, willing, able to work
Are actively seeking work
Well we don’t know right now if SCOTUS will disqualify Trump from the Colorado ballot but we can safely assume that Trump does not qualify for New York State Unemployment insurance benefits given that Judge Engoron would probably weigh in that:
Fault of his own - Trump has been banned from running any type of Real Estate business in New York due to the fact that he is “incapable of admitting the error of his ways … and his complete lack of contrition and remorse which borders on pathological.”*
Ready, willing and able to work - Trump faces 91 separate felony charges in four individual criminal indictments scheduled to be tried some time this current year between campaign events and golf dates.
Actively seeking work - running for election in November for a job that he has lost before - then won and lost again - then tried to steal back - why - because he is pathological.
Benefits denied!—Martin Sheil for Bette Dangerous, February 18, 2024

*Heidi note: recall when New York shut down the Trump Foundation for “functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Trump” and its “shocking pattern of illegality” then banned Trump and his kids from the “boards of other charities” in 2018? I do. Fits a pattern.—HSC
