If only the life of an independent investigative reporter was just about the work — I love the work. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing than bringing you truth during these dark days where too many souls are being taken hostage by corrupt bastards and too few are willing to go all in to defend democracy.
Unfortunately, too much time is spent devising ways to keep the lights on so I can stay independent. But in the life of a bourgeois troublemaker, that too seems a small price to pay, and I am always carried by angels — most of whom I met doing this work.
One of my angels is a singer from Long Beach named Bradley from the band sublime. I wrote about a book about his short life, and his father and I only printed a small number of copies so it’s quite the collectable.
While pondering how I was going to make my children’s season bright on the modest earnings of a pro-democracy writer, Bradley reminded me to check my super secret stash of rare sublime books and lo and behold, I found a copy in a box on a shelf buried behind original printouts of my first book with Ice T, and puzzles. Lol.
I have a story to share about the cosmic flow I was in when I wrote Bradley’s book. I almost didn’t write the book, because there were so many hurdles to overcome. I had to ask Brad for a sign from the heavens. He delivered within 24 hours at a k.d. lang concert in Palm Springs attended by Barry Manilow, when an associate out of the blue handed me a rare 40 Oz to Freedom promo bottle. I knew it was my sign. From there, the book flowed like magic.
I am raffling this rare book, and will sign it to the winner.
To enter, please donate a minimum of three cups of coffee — $9 — to either my Ko-Fi or Venmo accounts:
Please enter as many times as you like before Sunday, Dec. 17, 3:30 pm. The winner will be announced at my Speakeasy event featuring Jack Bryan and John Mattes of Lawyers, Guns, and Money. If you haven’t watched RadPod’s interview with John Mattes, run, don’t walk.
I will contact the book’s winner via email.
Thank you in advance for supporting me in this way. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a recovery program that had a big shortfall this year. Brad would’ve dug that.
For my friends who are unfamiliar with the music of sublime, here’s a favorite:
