Christmas Blues - It’ll Be Okay
For those who suffer a bit of the holiday blues, this one’s for you
Just know you are not alone. If you are lucky enough to have community, then reach out. Call a few people and ask how they’re doing. Look for opportunities to be of service, even in small ways.
No matter how big my life is, I will always be Barbara Stanwyck in ‘Stella Dallas’, standing under a street light, gazing into the window, where people gather joyfully, wondering what it would be like to be normal.
I have embraced that part of me, that feels alone even in crowds. It’s okay. It’s just my process.
Do not judge yourself harshly. Recognize that those in your life who may feel like enemy combatants may be suffering too. We can hold space in our hearts for people while still keeping out of harm’s way.
As I wrote previously, we can be that port in the storm for others. We who have knowledge of the war that divides so many.
My son just informed me that we’re having a second Christmas so I get to recapture some more of that seasonal joy, and for that, I am grateful.
Please enjoy a listen to “The Christmas Blues” by Bob Dylan, and know, everybody hurts sometimes. Its okay. It’s how we walk through it.
Thanks Heidi - that was so beautiful and really poignant. Happy Second Christmas wishes to you (I like your son’s style), happy New Year, and fuck it let’s pull the stops out - happy every day wishes to you and your loved ones x
