Byline Supplement - ‘Reversing History’
My report on ‘The US Authoritarian Right’s War on LGBTQ+ People’
Many members of the Bette community also subscribe to the UK newspaper I work for Byline Times and its weekend magazine Byline Supplement. Thank you for that. Like Bette Dangerous, our work is reader-funded, and that liberates us to be able to report what corporate media fails to.
My Sunday report in Byline Supplement - Reversing History: The US Authoritarian Right’s War on LGBTQ+ People - is a comprehensive view of the strategic assault on the gay population and its historic links to fascism.
I wrote:
When I first began investigating the number of bills targeting the gay community, trans youth, and drag queens, I wanted to believe that it was confined to the bible belt, southern states still aggrieved that they lost the Civil War and the world had progressed beyond the era of white landed gentry.
But what I found is far worse – the war on gay people in America is nationwide, staggering in scope, and rooted in fascist ideology.
Along with documenting the current scope of the attacks, I offer historic analysis, and celebrate the queens who made Hollywood nightlife the most exciting in the world. We have a duty to stop this reversing of history. We have a duty to be allies and to openly support and celebrate the gay community, and march beside any targeted community - that is the very essence of what I do on these pages.

If you missed my latest Meat Is Murdoch missive, here is a link to all my recent Fox News reporting, and it contains a very important video link to writer Tess Rafferty’s immediate 2016 post-election response. She was right about everything.
Let our empathy be greater than their hate.
As Heather Cox Richardson wrote at midnight last night:
Americans trying to push the United States to live up to its principles have always put themselves on the line for freedom rather than permitting democracy to fall to white supremacists or theocrats. As James Meredith recalled of his long struggle to desegregate the University of Mississippi in the 1960s: “My entire crusade at Ole Miss, you see, was a love story. It is a story about my love for America….”
Let’s make America’s future a love story.
